I first had the pleasure of checking Bradford rockers Chiang out last November at Sowerby Bridge’s The Blind Pig. Their relentless riffing was top-tier and now, thankfully, they’re back with some fresh treats for our ears. And the best news is, they’ve spared no expense on the chugging sounds here on their four-track EP, ‘Blood and Darkness’. 

Exhibiting value-for-money, stabbing drums, ferocious guitars and a coarse lyrical quality, Chiang possess a really refined rock style. Short, punchy and pacy, ‘Echo’ is a winner from the off, while the thumping ‘Lie’ showcases gritty, gravelly vocals. So you get a clear display of their signature sound while also being kept on your toes.

Plus, throughout, there are deft solos and metal-tinged sensibilities not dissimilar to the likes of Iron Maiden, Queens of the Stone Age and so on. And they absolutely beg for replays. You also detect this catchy, rhythmic bounce on tracks such as ‘Wiser’, which has a really theatrical opener as well. And ‘Good’ is scorching — far exceeding its title in how class it is.
