Hearing a debut always brings a buzz; you’re listening to a band in their infancy, making their first public waves. Yet, despite having that same hyped feeling here, metalcore five-piece Moonveil have actually been developing this box-fresh, conceptual track both sonically and visually for years. And the culmination of their alt-metal riffs, intense double-pedal drumming and mix of vocal styles is ‘Yuuki’.

Inspired by iconic, dark fantasy games such as Dark Souls and Elden Ring, they’ve released an incredible video to accompany the track; this isn’t just a listening experience but one you’re implored to watch unfold, too. A real cinematic work of videography. If that isn’t an outfit showing that they mean business, I don’t know what is. Musically, the chorus brings a softer vocal juxtaposition of traditionally sung lyrics, where their Deftones influences can be detected. So this will appeal to fans of Periphery, Spiritbox and so on. But instrumentally, the song delves more into Alpha Wolf or Vildhjarta territory.

A deeply atmospheric experience is sure to be had here. Don’t sleep on this — something new and very exciting has been unveiled…
