I’ve got turning up partway through support acts down to a fine art. But this tactic failed me spectacularly when I went to see Fatherson at the Brudenell.
Just as the room was under the spell of the enchanting and unassuming VanIves, I found my place in the crowd. I only wish I’d rocked up the second they started. What a band. Of the songs I heard, ‘Corder’ really stuck out and I’ve rinsed it since.
Due to a bad cold and throat infection, I was relying on trains to get me from A to B that night, sadly. By the time Fatherson hit the stage, I was only going to get about half an hour out of their set before I had to bounce, which was a massive pain. But, from what I saw, they didn’t disappoint. As the sequinned stage backdrop shimmered and their brightly-coloured boiler suits stood out, Fatherson played so well. ‘Always’ and ‘I Like Not Knowing’ were two of the top tracks on the billing.
