‘Disco Dancer’ — Answer Machine — Single review

Answering the call of the ringtone, the synth-led, off-beat ‘Disco Dancer’ is an ‘80s-tinged indie-pop belter from solo artist Archie Banks AKA Answer Machine. The Nottingham-born, Leeds-based musician has created a throwback-esque tune that’s sure to capture the ears of Stranger Things fans — especially with the clever reference to DNB vs. D&D.

It traverses the themes of two people having nothing more in common than the yearning to go out drinking, which is tastefully navigated through tinkling keys, shredding guitars and confidently uttered vocals. There’s a steady pace to it, and it cleverly possesses a style that warrants plays on the dancefloor, under a disco ball. Just as its title suggests, of course.

To celebrate the release of the tune, Answer Machine will take to Leeds’ Lending Room under the 360 Club logo tonight (5th August). Eager to hear it now, in the comfort of your own earphones? Head to Spotify.
