When I was in my early teens, Bayside were a band for skaters. Maybe even the emo crowd who were past the point of caring about visibly donning studded belts or tokenistic band t-shirts. But at the core of the New York outfit’s appeal was actually their melodic punk hooks.
Their most popular tracks aren’t my favourites and that’s because their back catalogue is so extensive — their rock repertoire is vast and there’s genuinely something for everyone to enjoy. You don’t have to exclusively watch Jackass and be disenfranchised from the world (though that’s fine).
One thing’s for sure as a Bayside fan: you can pick up and put down their tunes at your leisure and still be just as in awe every time you revisit their sound. That’s why they deserve an artist spotlight really — albeit just a brief one.
