‘The 1 Big 1’ — Vex Message — Single review

‘The 1 Big 1’, the latest single from Lancaster-based, synth-rock trio Vex Message, is as bombastic as its title alludes to. It follows on from ‘Data Regime’ and ‘No You Don’t’ and really gets you up off your chair. You can bet it’s had some talented hands on its production, too. That’s right, the track was mixed and mastered by Jag Jago, who’s worked with The Maccabees, Jessie Ware, The Magic Gang and more. Good start? Reckon so.

This funky, upbeat, lively tune was inspired by a post-apocalyptic novel that explores a society wherein language has broken down. It was written by their guitarist but honed by the band to lift it through a healthy peppering of electronics and searing riffs.

The band’s hotly tipped album is due to land this summer. But until then, you can stream the new tune on Spotify, get hold of a copy of a limited-edition cassette and follow Vex Message on Instagram and Facebook.
