‘From You’ — Gaby Kettle — Single review

I’m no country fan but this gentle, almost folky, acoustic track from Gaby Kettle makes me a convert — at least for a few minutes. That’s when you know you’ve pulled rabbits out of hats.

‘From You’ is the third single from the Birmingham-based songstress, who’s very Lianne La Havas and Jessie Ware, if you’re not yet acquainted. Gaby Kettle has also garnered support from BBC Hereford and Worcester, which just demonstrates that her boundless talent is being noticed.

The song explores the unsettling and unfair theme of low female self-esteem and “a system where women have to shout to be heard”, which is still so prevalent in all areas of society even now. Yet here the solo artist is, making a name for herself in the music industry and pushing past any gender-specific hurdles to, deservedly, dazzle in the limelight. This stripped-back-style number is certainly one to get on your radar.
