Following the release of their debut album ‘et cetera, etc’ and amid a tour, now was the opportune time to catch up with Aussie five-piece, dust…
RECORD WEEKLY’S INTERVIEW WITH DUST
Hi, how are you all doing?
Exquisite.
How’s your 2023 going so far?
2023 is going swimmingly. Our biggest year so far. Five shows left on our month long EU/UK run with Hockey Dad.
Yes, so you’re currently on tour — which venues are you most excited to play or have been the best thus far?
We’re halfway through the UK tour as we speak. Playing Band on the Wall in Manchester was a great time, and we’re excited to finish at Lafayette in London on Friday!
Take us right back to the beginning of when, where and how you formed…
Justin, Adam and Liam became friends in school and have always bonded over playing and listening to all kinds of music.
Gabe and Kye also met at school and played in a few bands throughout the local scene in Newcastle.
We eventually all came together through that scene and started playing music that we were more passionate about; music that we enjoy listening to and giving it our own experimental spin.
What are you favourite things about your local music scene?
The scene in Newcastle, Australia, is very inclusive, with a wide range of artists that play different genres of music. The fact that we’ve been able to be a part of it from a young age has helped us learn about how we want to write and perform.
What have been your biggest career achievements as a band to date?
Having had the opportunity to play shows with Hockey Dad in Europe and the UK is definitely the highlight. We’re also performing at The Great Escape in Brighton soon. Some big milestones for us this year.
Can you share any other upcoming teasers for the next few months?
Heading back to Australia in a month or so to tour the EP! That’ll be lots of fun, then we’re back here in November to play Pitchfork Festival London and hopefully work out more shows around the UK.
It’s all looking really rosy for dust, so stay tuned with all their latest by following them on Instagram pronto.
With thanks to Lewis at Super Cat PR for organising the interview.
