‘Second Sun’ — Jodie Nicholson — Single review

With a debut UK tour on the horizon in February, it’s only right that north-eastern singer-songwriter, Jodie Nicholson, whets our appetites with an oh-so palatable, dreamy offering beforehand. And so we have it, ‘Second Sun’, a fully-acoustic number with a raw video, filmed at The Old Church in Northumberland, to accompany it.

If you’re a fan of Sunflower Thieves, Daughter, Lucy Rose, Laura Marling and so on, you’ll find comfort in Jodie Nicholson’s angelic tones. Her rich harmonies are very typical of those artists, but she’s carving out her own niche and getting noticed by outlets such as 1883 Magazine, BBC Radio 6 Music and Amazing Radio in the process.

There’s a stripped-back nature to this piece, so it certainly delivers the warm and fuzzies. The vulnerability to the lyrics is a particularly striking element, too, while Jodie simultaneously strums along, showcasing her guitar prowess as well.

You can watch the session video here. Why not check out Jodie on Spotify and Instagram, too?
