I’m finally reviving the Inside the mind of… series that I started last year. So what better way to kick things off than by catching up with San Francisco, AKA Iwan Grant, to ask a few burning questions?
We’re in the third national lockdown but we’ve been served a roadmap out of it — what’s the first thing you want to do once we’re ‘free’?
I mean, all being well, I think pubs are hoping to open a couple of days before my birthday, so a few beers outside with mates would make for a pretty sweet present!
If you could pick any venue to play around the world (no, you don’t have to choose somewhere in San Francisco), where would it be?
I know it’s not a venue per se, but Reading and Leeds Festivals are the pinnacle, right? While a headline slot would be ideal, I’d happily settle for playing in the carpark!
You can’t beat a collaboration. Who would be the dream artist to collaborate with?
I’m a HUGE Moby fan, so the chance to work with him would be a dream come true. Even though he is usually more techno-based, his album ‘Hotel’ shows he’s more than capable of turning his hand to guitar music!
What was your favourite album of 2020?
Man, that’s a tough one! It’s really close but I’d have to say ‘The New Abnormal’ by The Strokes. Although, ‘Foolish Loving Spaces’ from Blossoms and ‘Colour Theory’ by Soccer Mommy are two super honourable mentions.
If you weren’t making music, what job would you otherwise want to be doing?
I know it’s really boring but I have no idea! I really enjoy writing (obviously), so maybe a writer/journalist or something? Fingers crossed I won’t have to find out though…

There you are — a snapshot of what’s inside the mind of Leeds’ very own San Francisco. Remember, you can keep an eye on his upcoming releases and latest news by following his Instagram and Spotify pages.
