‘On The Ropes’ — Apollo Junction — single review

The Britpop giants of Leeds are back and booming this January. Since we reviewed their last single, ‘Borderlines’, they’ve been busy working on new material — and it’s just the kind of energetic hit we need right now. Enter ‘On The Ropes’…

Harnessing their trademark ‘90s indie sound with even more might than before, this powerful, anthemic new tune is another toe-tapper alright. It begs to be played over and over again, which is no different to any of their back catalogue. They’re simply even more refined than before here.

This band is also a shining example of an outfit that, while this pandemic has caused seemingly limitless disruption for most of us, has pushed their career forward. They’ve used this forced pause in life’s hamster wheel to continue tirelessly producing incredible songs, and now it’s paying dividends. They’ve a huge headline show in Leeds on the cards later this year, with festival slots in the pipeline, too. It’s hardly any wonder they’re increasingly enjoying more radio airtime, alongside being added to official Spotify playlists!

If you’re on the hunt for something fist-pump-worthy today, then ‘On The Ropes’ leaves no room for disappointment — you’ll be hooked by the commanding vocals, infectious melody and fierce riffs within seconds, just as we’ve been. Get the speakers on and turn up the volume, because this banger deserves to be played loud and proud.
