Drella, The Underground (2025)

I’ve known the Drella fellas for three years now, and not only are they tremendously fab, nice guys, they put on a bloody good show. True to their angsty, punky blueprint, their tunes are absolute bops and nail their politically charged MO every time. Through mood-of-the-nation storytelling, covering everything to the downtrodden folks of the UK to airing general discontent — with a little satire for good measure — they hook you from the first few seconds. And that’s just what happened at Bradford’s old faithful, The Underground, once again.

Drella’s first gig in six months was in support of Red Shakes — another Bradford artist making waves — but they made the venue totally their own. And with fiery, evocative ‘Guillotine’ as their opener, they couldn’t go wrong. Some may say, they had ‘Nothing To Lose’ — another feisty banger in its own right.

While Alfie thumped those drum skins and set the pace behind, there was some fancy footwork as ever up the front. Jon and Toby always like a boogie while playing, and it never fails to get everyone in the crowd going themselves. It just offers this injection of playfulness amid the Tory jibes — and it set the mood impeccably on the night for ‘Wine Drunk at Dinner’.

Drella’s set flew by — I could’ve gladly stood there for another hour of tunes. But they ended proceedings with the ultra-punchy ‘Divide’ — one of my faves.

They’re a rising Bradford band you absolutely have to see when you next get the chance! So keep your eyes firmly locked on their socials for more show news.
