Deer Shed Festival 2025 preview

Deer Shed isn’t just a festival; it’s a state of mind. Why are you laughing? Bit corny? Tough. It’s true. This annual weekender held at Baldersby Park in Topcliffe, North Yorkshire, is an all-ages treasure, ideal for new-music discoverers and playlist pioneers. From families to fun-seekers, and everyone in between, it’s a summertime joy that we’re delighted to be on the cards again* very soon…

When is it?

25-28th July 2025 — that’s Friday until Monday.

Why put it in the diary?

Gosh, where to begin? For starters, you’ve not just got mega music line-ups to look forward to, but comedy sets as well. Science demos, arts and crafts classes, sports activities, vinyl signings… You name it, it’s on the agenda. So you can carve out a wholesome weekend of pure spirit-lifting bliss, plus one filled with some of the coolest artists on the block. There’s something for every genre’s fan, and the same goes for food. Vegan? Vegetarian? Pescatarian? Undisputed carnivore? All preferences are counted for. And did we mention there’s usually candy floss, ice cream and various bakes? We won’t tell the dentist if you won’t.

How to make a weekend of it…

Quite simply, dust off the tent, dig out your comfiest shoes and grab your sleeping bags — it’s time to camp. The site’s vast and there’s plenty of dedicated space for you to pitch up. Literally.

You can enjoy the freedom to access different zones across the full site, and there’s an abundance of loos (some even compost, for the environmentally conscious among you). Everyone’s very tidy, hygienic and friendly who attends Deer Shed too, it has to be said! So you can get excited about the whimsy and enchantment of this gem without thinking you’ll compromise on your creature comforts too much. This isn’t your usual kind of festival — in the most positive of ways!

Who’s playing, and who do we recommend?

Record Weekly promotes all genres, but we’re big on rock music. So naturally, Wunderhorse being a headliner is exceptionally great news. You’ve also got Kae Tempest, The Big Moon and Idlewild among the major acts ready to impress. And that’s not forgetting angsty punk newbie faves, SPRINTS. Oh yes! It’s also welcome back to the field to Divorce.

Other names you may know but not have seen yet include BIG SPECIAL, Anthony Szmierek, Moonchild Sanelly (who’s collaborated with former headliner, Self Esteem), Joan As Police Woman, Spielmann, and so many more.
