Ready to make waves in 2025, Leeds-based solo artist, Eve Buckley, stopped by for a chinwag.
Hey Eve, how’s it going?
It’s been a pretty busy start to the year! I released my debut EP last month and, before that, I went on a little mini pre-EP launch tour around the UK with the band. That was incredible, so it’s been a lot to process!
Aw nice one! So tell us a bit about your music and how it all began for you.
My music is a kind of hybrid of alternative soul and jazz-infused pop. I take a lot of influence
from artists like Jordan Rakei and Lianne La Havas. But I started out going to a lot of indie gigs
in my teens and feeling really inspired watching female-led bands, so I began writing my own
stuff and going to open mics.
Then, when I moved to Leeds, I started properly exploring the kind of music I wanted to make and gigging a lot around the city. That’s when I also got stuck into writing the songs I’ve just released.

What have been your career standouts to date?
There have been a lot within the first three months of this year actually, which is crazy. A big one I’d say, though, is getting to work with Chalkpit Cassette Club to have my debut single, ‘Big Shot’, featured on one of their monthly cassette compilations. With it being the first time my music had been released in physical form, it felt like a really surreal moment when it arrived and I got to see my name printed on it.
Another one would have to be selling out my first tour! As it was my first ever headline run of shows, it was super-scary. But to have people turning up just to hear my stuff was so special.
What’s your local area like for gigs?
Leeds has a really busy music scene; there are a lot of gigs on everywhere, every night of the week. So when I first started gigging, there were so many spaces and opportunities to test things out and build my confidence with performing. There are just loads of really cool local bands and artists, so it’s a great scene to be a part of!
If you could open for any three acts, still going or not, who would they be?
First one would be Lianne La Havas, 100%. I’ve been inspired so much by the way she writes
and her energy as an artist, so to open up for her would be literally a dream. Another would be
Marika Hackman; I’ve listened to her music for a really long time and I’ve always come back to it
at different parts of my life. That would be a full-circle moment. Olivia Dean would be the third, as the energy of her music and shows is incredible and I just think it would be really fun!
Can you share anything coming soon?
I’m working on new music currently to come out later this year, but I’m yet to announce a very
cool project I’m a part of — involving a physical form of my debut EP!

Watch this space then, hey? Make sure you’re following Eve on Instagram now, so you can keep up with all the latest.
