Caribou, O2 Academy Leeds

I’m going to keep this short and sweet, and stick to the facts. Caribou’s ace live. It’s as simple as that.

For a dreary Sunday night, Dan Snaith and his live ensemble managed to bring out a mad number of people. I’ve not seen Leeds’ O2 Academy that busy since Alexisonfire at the end of 2022. It was sardine-style packed, yet each body in the room found just enough space to dance, bop and groove.

The grin-inducing set was wall-to-wall thumping synths and electronics, underpinned by a combo of chunky SPD and full drum kit, with a guitarist and bassist on hand for the real-life instrumental elements. The sound was massive. And the setlist had been so well-curated, with old faves like ‘Odessa’ interspersed among the newly popular ‘Honey’. Such a mixed bag of hits from Caribou’s majestic back catalogue. The finale was a superb, elongated rendition of the ever-delightful ‘Can’t Do Without You’, which I’ve had lodged in my brain since. A blissful night as a long-standing fan.
