‘Stranger’ — Mother Beck — Single review

New year, new band? We’ve got just the outfit in mind…

Mother Beck is the freshest project of former Sleep Stranger frontman, Harry, so you’re about to detect a voice you (should) recognise. He’s one of the four lads from the north shaking up the London music scene under this monicker.

Here on their debut single, ‘Stranger’, you ironically get to know what the quad is all about. Jangly guitars follow an opening, drawn-out pedal screech as indie rock with a fist-pump chorus is then confidently delivered. A super-tight rhythm section is fused with complementing guitars and a smooth vocal clarity, and the result is an anthemic, stadium-ready sound you’ll find yourself playing on repeat. And the more it’s on rotation, the more I can imagine their amps giving it that extra firepower live, too. So I’d recommend you catch them at the first chance you get, as they’re definitely a band to keep tabs on in 2025.
