Getting to spread the word about emerging bands is one of our favourite things here at Record Weekly, so here’s your chance to meet Broken Wires. We caught up with Frankie about the band and all their upcoming plans.
Hey, happy 2025 (albeit a little late)! What are you most looking forward to this year?
Happy 2025 to you, too! We have a really exciting year ahead. We’re working on our second album and we’re really looking forward to playing a whole load of festivals again this summer.
Fantastic stuff! What were your 2024 highlights?
2024 was an incredible year for us. We released our debut album, ‘Author of Your World’, in October, and had a big launch party, which was amazing.
My brother Henry and I went and played ten times in America, including Los Angeles, New Orleans, Memphis and, ultimately, at The Bluebird Cafe in Nashville. It was challenging as we had to strip back our original songs to play them acoustically with just a cajon (rather than with our brilliant drummer George and excellent bassist Emma). But it worked and we had a great reaction everywhere we played, and we went on to be featured on BBC Introducing. We were also named Wyre Forest Young Band of the Year.

How has your latest album been received so far? Tell us a bit about how it came to be.
The response to our album has been phenomenal across the world. We’ve had glowing, full-page reviews in the Birmingham Mail, Birmingham Post, SLAP, and we were on the front page of the Sunday Mercury Weekend’s magazine. We were live for two hours on Black Country Radio, talking about our album, and it’s been played on loads of others, including Big Condo Records. And you’ve featured us in your new release roundups as well!
Since then, our story has been picked up in America and we’ve had full-page features in Canvas Rebel, Bold Journey and Voyage LA Magazine. Our album was streamed more than 5,000 times in 60+ countries in the first two months alone. Pretty cool!
For ‘Author of Your World’, our vocalist and rhythm guitarist Henry [15] wrote most of the lyrics and the riffs, then we jammed them together as a band to bring them to life. The incredible Paul Smith produced the album in his studio and we also recorded a music video for our headline song ‘Coffee Rock’.
Can you share any plans for this year?
2025 is shaping up to be just as exciting. We’re planning to release a live version of ‘Author of Your World’, and we’re working on a new album, too. We already have three tracks down, including ‘The Vagrant’ and ‘Memento Mori’, which are proving really popular when we play them live.
Plus, HMV Vault in Birmingham is planning to stock our CDs and merch, and we’ll be performing there later this year! We’re through to the Kenfest Battle of the Bands and we’re competing in the Worcester Competitive Arts Festival.

If you could share a stage with any three bands this year, which would they be?
Love this question! We have really eclectic tastes. Henry would love to share a stage with Rival Sons. For George, it would be Dream Theater, Emma loves Porcupine Tree and, for me, it would be King Crimson. Sorry, that’s four!
If you could collaborate with any artist/band, past or present, who would you choose?
Our dream collab would be to sit down with Jim Morrison and write songs for an afternoon in front of a roaring fire in a log cabin in the middle of nowhere.
That sounds like bliss to us, too. Want to find out more about Broken Wires’ forthcoming gigs and music releases? Head to their Linktree now.
