Prepare to take flight because DAYTIME TV’s brand-new EP, ‘Island.’, delivers nothing but a sense of adventure — oh, and thumping synths amid playful pop-punk.
Escapism from the mundanity of reality is on offer here via five upbeat, addictive tracks. It all begins with the pulsating, almost drilling ‘So Sick’, a piece that has this hypnotic tempo that’s super-catchy but also a fair bit heavier than some of its counterparts. For that reason, it’s my standout, despite how solid the rest of the songs are.
‘Lost In Tokyo’, ‘Fear’ and ‘Block Out The Noise’ are the three previously released tracks from the EP campaign. The former harbours an epic, ‘80s-style, Justice-esque intro that sounds as though you could be sauntering through Japan, yet it’s really a narrative around an explorative dreamland. Then, ‘Fear’ harnesses those feelings of wariness and being held back, with some shredding riffs bolstering the synths.
The penultimate bop is ‘Waves’, a slightly gentler, more anthemic beat. It’s one that’s especially electronic in delivery, with a roaring chorus to boot. And last but not least, the stabbing finale, ‘Block Out The Noise’, which ironically makes you want to do the opposite and spin it over again.
So if you’re after a new, one-way ticket to throwback vibes that have received a modern lick of pop-rock paint, go all in with ‘Island.’ pronto.
